How to make skin tone for fondant
Today I tell you how to make skin tone for fondant so that you can use it in your sugar figures or in any other design that you can think of or need.
When I was a child, it was common to draw pictures and color people orange or pink, and if you were lucky, maybe you had that long-awaited skin tone crayon. Although not all color sets included it.
But when we want to make fondant figures, things change. It would not look as good to make figures with orange or pink. I guess it would draw too much attention, and not for the good.
We have different options to make skin tone with fondant. I am going to tell you about some of them and decide which one best suits your needs or which one is easier for you to do.
Use ivory food coloring. In my case, this is the option that I always use, since it is the one that is most comfortable for me. In addition, the result meets expectations. I use the Wilton brand ivory color, although today, almost any brand has this shade.
Depending on how much product we apply, we will get a paler or darker complexion. Be careful and don’t apply too much, or it will turn out a somewhat strange color, which is no longer skin tone. Here you can see how and when to dye fondant.
My recommendation is that you start by dyeing different balls of the same size and try different amounts of dye. This way, you will be able to obtain different types of skin and know which tone you like the most.
There are also brands, like Sugarflair (my favorite) that has a dye called skin tone. Personally, I don’t like the tone too much. I think the color obtained with ivory is more accurate. This skin tone colorant tends more to be…pink? I don’t know, I’m not convinced but judge for yourself.
On the other hand, we can do it by mixing colors, in case you do not have the ivory tone. We will have to use a part of yellow with a very small part of red to get orange. Next, we’ll add white to lighten it and finally, we’ll add a bit of blue to make it turn out to a more skin tone.

How to make black people?
To make figures with another skin tone we can also use dyes. From my point of view, it is always better to use dyes to make skin color (both white and black). We will have to work less and you will always obtain the same tone.
For these skin tones, I recommend using earth tones or light browns: chocolate, brown, dark brown.
