How I started

Today I want to tell you how I started making fondant figures

But for this, I must start at the beginning. About 7 years ago, I injured my hand preparing for an exam to be a teacher. (Yes, yes, as you read. I am an early childhood education teacher). That injury meant  I couldn’t write, brush my hair, drive… my right hand was in constant pain. Doctors didn’t know what was wrong with me.

I spent many months crying in pain and grief. My spirits were rock bottom. Until the day came when I decided to put an end to it and try to improve. At that stage I met fondant and it was love at first sight.

Then, I felt a little better about my hand, after the only treatment that worked for me, and I decided to look for a course.

My first contact with fondant was not the best, small details were impossible to do! I wanted to do all the courses available. I knew it would be easier through courses than on my own.

Still, I started practicing at home. I started making all the characters that came to my mind. I spent hours and hours practicing. I was looking for images of a character and I tried to make it, but yes, always in my style.

I ran into all kinds of problems. And it took me many hours of research until I found the key to solve them.

I am not going to deceive you, also many hours of practice. Of trial and error. To repeat and start over. To get angry. To go and watch television. To come back and take it with more desire.

I’m sure if you’ve been doing this for a while or if you have another hobby, you know what I’m talking about.

And that’s it, any learning takes time. Nothing is learned overnight. It’s quite a tough journey.

And harder when we do it alone. Although I went to courses and had a lot of knowledge and techniques, I wanted to improve and try new things.

That caused complications. But with effort and perseverance I managed to solve them little by little.

Some of the problems were related to proportions. I couldn’t find the right measurements to make the figures look pretty. Sometimes the body was too big, and other times the problem was the head.

Uff, the head… I’m sure it’s another problem you’ve encountered at some point, right? Yes, I know how difficult it is to make faces and get them to be pretty or the eyes to be the same size. You need a good method or many, many hours of practice to master it.

Sometimes I even considered throwing in the towel. It’s frustrating not to see improvements and it’s quite discouraging but what would I have gotten out of it? The truth is that nothing.

So don’t give up even if you think it’s difficult or that you’re not seeing changes, because sometimes they’re so small that we’re not able to appreciate them. But in the long run, you will see that they are there.

Even to this day I still see changes. In just one year I can appreciate details such as: taking less time, getting better techniques, finishes… and those little drops add up little by little.

And after?

After seeing how long it took me to make my figures, the problems I found myself with and that no one could solve for me, I decided to think about how I could help other pastry chefs who were in the same situation as me.

And that’s when the light bulb went on.

I decided to answer all those questions on social networks and here on the blog. These 7 years of experience is what I am sharing little by little.

But where you can really learn all my tricks and techniques is in my online Academy. It is where I share everything I know, without filter.

And this is how you can save hours and years of practice trying different Youtube tutorials or techniques that you see on social networks.

I have already thought and tested the tutorials so that they work for you and you do not have headaches because you don’t knoe where to start or how to do it.

It will take you a short time and you will get very good results with the more than 120 courses available. In addition, you will not only learn how to make figures, you will also learn tips and tricks. See here what the courses are like or better, see what the Academy is like.

I hope you liked knowing how I started and you are encouraged to learn too.
